I have posted before that I buy groceries based on what is on sale. Today I stumbled on Cooking Light's
website and found that they have an
"In Season" section. They list what produce is in season, how to choose and store the produce, and then have a few recipes using the in season finds. I can't tell you how many times I have asked a sweet older woman how to choose a variety of produce, and Cooking Light has taken the guess work out of it!
Thanks for the heads up. I can't wait to get a hold of it. I never know how to pick anything but watermelon. I've been told you need to look for the ones with scratches on them. Supposedly the coons and such try to scratch their way into the sweet ones.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard the Jerry Seinfield bit about picking out fruit?
ReplyDeleteHe talks about not knowing what he's doing so he's holding them up to the light and looking at them or rolling them like a bowling ball.
"See how that one curves to the left....not ready yet."
Anyway, I will have to check it out. I tend to buy the same produce repeatedly since
1. I know how to pick the good stuff
2. I know how to cook it
3. I know it will be eaten!!
